JSL Sustainability Initiatives

JSL believes that the Sustainable development requires an integrated approach that takes into consideration environmental concerns along with economic development. The Sustainable Development Goals form the framework for improving the lives of populations around the world and mitigating the hazardous man-made effects of climate change.
Our ambition is to produce Sugar and Ethanol that also have the lowest environmental footprint, so we strive to continuously improve our operational efficiency and environmental performance.
Our factory not only creates world class products to deliver Health and Wellness but they also add value to farmers by processing agricultural products in a sustainable manner. And our purpose speaks to our belief in connecting people through delicious, planet-friendly environment.
  • An organization that is sustainable can achieve its following goals without affecting future generations by depleting their resources.,

Water Conservation

  • ⮞ JSL has taken various steps in production activity to reduce the raw water consumption.
  • ⮞ JSL intended approach on lots of sustainable initiatives to reduce water consumption which has helped it to achieve the zero liquid discharge status at their effluent treatment plants; the treated crystal clear water is reused for irrigation purpose.
  • ⮞ The waste water generated from the sugar factory has been brought well within the norms by the State/Central Pollution Control Board. The generation of wastewater is less than 100 liter per ton of cane.
  • ⮞ The company has taken various projects for rainwater harvesting through constructing ponds, The rooftop water is collected in tank and recycled for various applications. The various activities of ground water recharge are done on site.
  • ⮞ Condensate water is recycled in process and cooling application. The excess condensate water is cooled down in Mist Cooling System and it is recycled for process application.
  • ⮞ The company has installed Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) to treat the sewage water. STP treated water is reused for gardening purpose
  • ⮞ In distillery division, the raw spentwash is transferred towards Multiple Effect Evaporation system (MEE) to concentrate the spentwash. The concentrated spentwash is used as a fuel for 21 tph incineration boiler. The condensate from MEE is treated in Process Condensate Treatment Plant (PCTP). The treated condensate is recycled for cooling tower makeup. All the generated wastewater is recycled Hence our distillery plant is zero liquid discharge plant.

 Here are some key actions the company is taking to achieve its goals:

  • ✅ Working to achieve regenerative water use – reducing, reusing, recycling and replenishing the water used to produce its beverages.
  • ✅ Improving community access to drinking water, sanitation and hygiene while supporting workers – to prepare and rapidly recover from water-related crises.
  • ✅ In priority Establishing and implementing rainwater harvesting plans to improve ground water recharge.
  • ✅ Sourcing “water-sustainable” ingredients and supporting nature-based solutions.

Energy efficiency

The Industry has installed 10 MW & 3 MW capacity turbines at sugar factory. The sugar factory generated power from turbine is given to the export. The JSL has installed a 70 tph boiler to produce required steam for production of sugar application. The fuel used for sugar boiler is bagasse. The steam losses are minimize through adoption of various engineering techniques.

The wet scrubber is installed as air pollution control equipment. It is efficiently work & reduce the pollution load to the atmosphere. The industry has installed another 21 tph incineration boiler with 1.9 MW turbine at distillery plant. Coal bagasse and conc. Spent wash are used as fuel for the boiler. The four field Electrostatic precipitator (ESP) is used as air pollution control equipment. The efficiency of the ESP is more.

Jaywant Sugars Ltd has installed 48 TPD CO2 recovery plant for the production of liquid and dry CO2 from distillery plant. Carbon dioxide is a colorless and non-flammable gas at normal temperature and pressure. Although much less abundant than nitrogen and oxygen in Earth's atmosphere, carbon dioxide is an important constituent of our planet's air. A molecule of carbon dioxide (CO2) is made up of one carbon atom and two oxygen atoms. The most common commercial uses of liquid carbon dioxide are as under Refrigeration and freezing in food processing and production, Shield gas in welding applications to prevent weld oxidation, pH balance in water treatment plants. Fire suppression systems, Plant growth stimulation in greenhouse

Minimising Waste

JSL has taken all the measures to reduce the hazardous waste non hazardous waste. The ordinary ash from incineration boiler is used for bricks manufacturing. The industry have own brick manufacturing plant in distillery premises. The ash from ESP is having very high Potash hence it is sold to farmers.

We have adopted modern technology such as Multiple Effect Evaporation system followed by Incineration boiler. It minimizes the waste. Press mud is converted to usable compost and sold to farmers at nominal prices for agricultural purposes.

Non-hazardous wastes in the form of PP bags (used in packaging) are given to the recycles. They are prepare furnace oil for PP bag waste. The generated bagasse is used as a fuel for boiler. Hazardous waste such as used or spent oil is burnt in incineration boiler.

Enhancing Resource Efficiency

JSL has conserving energy and water to reduce your costs and minimise emissions. Waste can come in many forms and have negative impacts on the environment and human health. JSL provides extensive technology adoption in its operations has further enhanced the manufacturing efficiencies. Sugar cane development initiatives have been beneficial both to the Industry and the farmers
